Description:

Ceramic horns are my most recent endeavor. Played much like a bugle or a French horn without valves, a rich varied tone can be achieved by someone accustomed to playing brass instruments. This particular horn has a large interior volume creating a deeper, trombone like sound. 8"X15"X11"

Description:

This hand drum is based on the Dum Bec, a thin headed hand drum originally from the Middle East. It has both a deep booming bass from the center of the head and a sharp high pitched tone when played on the edge. The head is tied with a special knot that allows for easy tuning. This piece is also wood fired. 15"X15"X15"

These wood fired, Shino glazed hand drums were inspired by the Klong Yaw drum from the Buddhist temples of Thailand. The thick goat skin head and the long narrow neck create an extended deep tone that is not unlike the sound of a conga drum. 28"X11"X11"

Description:

The Udu drum, a west African instrument is played by slapping the palm of the hand against the hole on the side and either holding or releasing, creating deep resonant tones and sharp slaps. The tone is altered by covering the larger hole all or part way with the other hand. This Udu drum was fired in a low temperature reduction in the wood burning kiln and has a particularly deep tone. 16"X10"X14"
